SOUTH FLORIDA FM ASSOCIATION FEBRUARY 12, 2007 MINUTES OF MEETING PRESIDENT: RONNIE HAIK (KG4DBI) DIRECTORS: MAIL YOUR DUES TO: Meeting was called to order at 19:58 with 18 present. Tonight we are again having a joint meeting with the SFMMA and the Dade Radio Club. The SFFMA met first tonight. Ronnie welcomed everyone to the joint SFFMA and DRC meeting. The meeting was broadcast live on the air tonight from the EOC. Testing is being conducted tonight in another room. The microphone was then passed around the room and everyone stated their name and call sign. Ray requested that if anyone is going to say something to use the microphone for those that are listening so that they can hear what is being said. Ronnie asked for a moment of silence for George Kerly WT$X. Ronnie welcomed everyone again. We do not have a guest speaker tonight. The minutes for the January meeting were posted on the web. A motion was made by Randy to accept the January minutes, seconded by Steve. Ray stated that if you belong to the SFFMA Club you need to register on yahoogroups, but you must be a member to join. Repeater update: Ray reported on the 146.760. It is working fine. We are on it right now. Use it. Carl reported on the 444.200. Running excellent. It was discussed about the club applying for its own call sign Philipe advised that Coral Gable Races has their own - K4GCGR. Robert was not present to report on the 220.000. Old Business: Ernesto was not present tonight. Frank advised that the only issue right now is where to stay in the hotels. They are over priced and requiring 2 or more nights. The route is the same as last year. There are approximately twice the number of riders registered so far this year as last year. The 150 Break Away Bike-A-Thon dates are April 21 and 22, 2007. No one under 18 is allowed to ride this year. The high hotel pricing is because of the Break-Away and may be we need to look at having it somewhere in Broward next year. If you book online, you can book 1 night, but it still isn't cheap. It was also announced that the club has a back-up plan if the repeater (147.000) is not up and working. Carl spoke about the Miami Marathon. It rained. It went well. Brain ran 13 miles (1/2). Brian thanked those that volunteered for their hard work. Ben was supposed to be here tonight. There were about 40 volunteers. The tour of the operation center of the Coast Guard Station on Miami Beach for Sunday, February 18 at 4PM has been cancelled. Carl will call John Hall. Ronnie asked if there was any further old business. There was none. New Business: Sam spoke about the Merit Badge College of the Boy Scouts for March 16, 17 and 18. He wants the communication vehicle for Saturday, March 17. He needs volunteers. If interested, see Sam. Sam spoke about the CHAMP program and awards. He needs nominations for that award and will advise when the cut-off date is. The award has been expanded to credit those that volunteer in the community. The award is presented annually at the Citizens' Crime Watch Dinner. All of the past award winners will meet tonight after the meeting (Randy, Carl, John, Ray, Sam, Ronnie). The award is now called the Joe Chwick AC4TV Award. The date of the award ceremony is Friday, May 11th. Banquet tickets will be available. Brian spoke about having an annual awards presentation at the end of the year for 2 individuals in amateur radio that have made the biggest impact to the community. One is for an adult and 1 is for a junior member. Joanne nominated Carl, seconded by Philipe. Don Morris nominated Chris for the junior member award, seconded by Steve. Philipe nominated John McHugh. Ronnie announced that he will be accepting emails for any other nominations by next meeting and we will vote at the next meeting. The Orlando Hamfest which took place this past weekend was discussed. Ronnie reminded everyone that dues were officially due Jan 1, 2007. We will be making a new list of paid members. You can give your dues to Ronnie or Caesar tonight. Dues are $30.00 per year and $5.00 for each family member. If you are a new ham, you can become a non-voting member for 1 year free, and are considered honorary members for the rest of the year. A new membership list will be posted on the website shortly. Brian inquired as to guest speakers for future meetings. Ray spoke about the new FCC Rules and CW is being dropped. You can upgrade your licenses. If interested in testing, a special session will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the EOC from 9AM - 2PM.
