are used for supplies, ID's, insurance for equipment and functions, pizza night,
repeaters, refreshments, to name a few. Please give your dues to Ronnie or
Caesar tonight or send them to the PO Box. Dues are $30.00 per year and $5.00
for each family member. If you are a new ham, you can become a non-voting member
for 1 year free. With regard to the Bike-A-Thon. It is going to take place May 6 & 7 this year. It's the same weekend as the Air Show. The numbers are up from last year. We have 992 riders last year and 1510 so far this year. We had 103 teams last year and we have 127 teams this year so far. The #1 place is Texas with 27,000 riders. MS150 generates more than 50% of their revenue from the South Florida Chapter. They took in more than $1,000,000.00. Ronnie announced that we will have 2 less Hams this year since he and Brian will be riding this year. Joanne and Caesar will be at the Air Show. To register as a rider, there is a $40.00 initial registration fee; minimum $300.00 is the amount per rider to raise. Ronnie asked the club to sponsor 1/3 of the $300.00 for himself and Brian. A motion was made by Philippe and 2nd by Caesar for the club to pay $100.00 each for Ronnie and Brian. Robert called in and agreed with the motion. See Ernesto if you are interested in helping. He needs people. New Business: Ronnie advised that he has spoken at the past few meetings about bringing both clubs together as 1 club, the SFFMA and the Dade Radio Club. There would be 1 meeting instead of 2. The name will have to be changed. Many members gave their opinion. It was stated that the Hamboree would be separate. Dade Radio Club was the original club. The cost for Dade Radio Club would be only $12.00 per year. Frank asked if $12.00 would cover everything that the SFFMA pays for now. Jeff and Ronnie will talk and let us know at the next meeting what they worked out. Lysette spoke about the March of Dimes Marathon, which will take place April 29th at Crandon Park. It is 6 miles. If interested, see Lysette or contact her at KI4DYH.com or at 305-898-9118. She needs volunteers. Ray volunteered the use of the misters. Lysette said that there are some, but she would let him know. Ray brought up that we should put together a list of businesses that have generators in the event of another hurricane or other disaster. This is so that if someone calls in that they are at some location and are looking for gas for example, we could direct them accordingly. Ronnie opened the floor to any other new business. Ray also announced that the 00 cabinet is in the works. Ray advised that Mike's Electronics moved a few blocks west of where the store was before. Ray announced that Motorola is having a free flea on Saturday April 1, but at a new location. Philippe advised it was on Oakland Park near the railroad tracks at a part there. Watch the website for this info. Mike announced that he needs help putting in the new repeaters in his hand held. Some members will help him after the meeting. Joanne advised that there are 80 days until hurricane season. Start getting your hurricane supplies. Phones are open if anyone wants to call in at 786-331-5052. Ronnie requested a moment of silence for KD4CGP - John Frillingos who recently passed away. Ronnie opened the floor for any other questions or concerns. There were none. With no other business, Ronnie thanked everyone for coming. Refreshments were served in the cafeteria. The meeting was adjourned at 20:40. Joanne Carbana |
