SOUTH FLORIDA FM ASSOCIATION NOVEMBER 13, 2006 MINUTES OF MEETING PRESIDENT: RONNIE HAIK KG4DBI DIRECTORS: MAIL YOUR DUES TO: Meeting was called to order at 20:05 with 16 present. Tonight we are again having a joint meeting with the SFMMA and the Dade Radio Club. The SFFMA meet first tonight. Ronnie welcomed everyone to the joint SFFMA and DRC meeting. The meeting was broadcast live on the air tonight from the EOC. Testing is being conducted tonight in another room. The microphone was then passed around the room and everyone stated their name and call sign. Prior to the meeting, we had an aerial fire truck demonstration in the parking lot. Ronnie welcomed everyone again. He was late to the meeting as he was picking up an award for Florida Rock Industries as they donated more than $2000 for our new cabinet for the 147.000. John will drop off the award to them. We do not have a guest speaker tonight. The minutes for October meeting were not posted on the web. Joanne read an abbreviated version of the minutes. A motion was made by Sam to accept the October minutes as the abbreviated version was read with the understanding the entire minutes for October will be posed on the web, seconded by Chris. Repeater update: Carl spoke about the 444.200. It is still working and the clock has been properly set. Ray spoke about the 146.760. The repeater is working well. Please use it. Using the auto-patch was discussed. It was also discussed how to join yahoo groups. For historical information, photographs, etc., go the website: miamitimemachine@yahoogroups.com. Ronnie advised that we will be taking nominations later tonight. Old Business: Ernesto spoke about the MS 150 Break Away Bike-A-Thon. The date is April 21 and 22, 2007. So far they have 100 more riders than this time last year. Jason Swift will coordinate the emergency logistics with police and rescue. It is also being discussed about moving the start/finish line to the archways. Just need the approval from the dean at the college. Frank is coordinating the volunteers. Everything is looking good and moving along. Sam brought up the Merit Badge College with the Boy Scouts. They are celebrating their 15th year. It used to be in December and this year it will be March 15, 16 and 17. They are looking for volunteers for the Radio Merit Badge and the Electronics Merit Badge. It will take place at the Barbara Goldman High School in Miami Lakes. See Sam if you are interested. Last meeting, we gave a plaque to the Florida Rock Industry. Ronnie received an email from them. They were very appreciative and surprised. John McHugh advised that they offered a field trip to their facility in Jan/Feb to tour their new facilities. Last meeting Philipe spoke about the JR Orange Bowl for Sat. Dec 30. We are not working the staging this year. The hams will only work the corridor of the parade. Where it starts on TV to where it finishes. We are only there for emergencies. If you are interested, see Philipe. Ronnie asked if there was any more Old Business. There was none and we went on to New Business: New Business: Ronnie spoke about Ben Nemser and the Miami Marathon. It will take place on January 28, 2007. He needs volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Ben at 305-892-1500 or see Ronnie. John Hall brought up the availability of a tour of the operation center of the Coast Guard Station on Miami Beach. It was decided that it will take place on Sunday, February 18 at 4PM. He can take 15 or 20 at a time. We can eat at the galley afterwards. See Joanne to make a list if you are interested. You need to sign-up so that passes can be obtained for your vehicles. Ronnie spoke about the Holiday Dinner for next month. It was agreed that it will be on Saturday, December 16 at 6:30 PM here at the EOC cafeteria. The cost will be $10.00 per person. You must pay in advance. If you are interested, please see Joanne. We will have a meeting on December 11, before the Holiday Dinner. You can pay next month if you don't have the money tonight. John McHugh called in about the Florida Rock Industries tour of their new facilities. It will be set up and announced at another meeting. Ronnie announced that nominations were now being taken. Sam made a motion that the Trustees are again nominated and kept the same, seconded by Randy. All approved. The directors are all the same this year. The following nominations were taken: For President: Ronnie Haik (KG4DBI) was nominated by Chris and seconded by Brian. For Vice-President: Ernesto Diaz (KG4LXH) was nominated by Steve and Brian Bailey (KE4VMQ) was nominated by Chris and For Secretary: Joanne Carbana (KG4GKU) was nominated by Ernesto For Treasurer: Caesar Carbana (KG4BZA) was nominated by Chris Sam made a motion to close the nominations, seconded by Randy. Any other nominations will be taken at the next meeting or send an email to Ronnie or Joanne. Brian made a motion to create an annual awards presentation at the end of the year for 2 individuals in amateur radio that have made the biggest impact to the community, seconded by Sam. All agreed and the motion passed. Sam suggested using L & M on 56 Street and approx 90th Avenue. Plaques are approx $35.00-$40.00 each. We don't pay taxes. Brian will volunteer to put it together. Steve suggested that we use the local community business and all agreed that it was a good idea. Chris spoke about Asterisk to enhance auto-patch capabilities. He explained how it worked. Ronnie opened the floor to any other new business. There was none. With no other business, Ronnie thanked everyone for coming and advised that snacks were in the cafeteria.
